A Day Hike To Lamadugh : Discovering Manali's Hidden Beauty

If you're in Manali and looking for a refreshing day hike, Lamadugh is the perfect option. Just a 17km round trek from old Manali, the trek is packed with scenic beauty and offers an immersive experience through lush Deodar forests, birdlife, and quiet glades that make the uphill climb worth every step. Here's a glimpse into our adventure and why you should try it!

Our journey began at 9 am, setting off from the back side of Hadimba Temple. The first part of the trek wound through dense forests of Deodar, oak, pine, horse chestnut and maple trees. The trail was moderate, climbing gently upward with sections that occasionally gave us challenge. March to December is ideal for this trek, and we were lucky to enjoy it with clear skies and cool mountain breezes. Early in the season, the trail if often dusted with snow. adding an enchanting touch to the landscape.

We were also lucky to have a sweet, unexpected trekking companion - a friendly local dog who trotted along with us, adding to the charm of the hike.

The Lamadugh trail offers mesmerizing views at every turn. We came across birdlife and paused to listen to the sounds of the forest while catching our breath. We did have a few moments where we felt a bit lost, as the trail wasn't always clearly marked, but we managed to find out way with some team work and guidance from our four-legged friend.

With fewer trekkers on the trail, the forest felt like our own private escape, making the experience even more special. After several hours of trekking, we finally reached the top!

At the summit, we took in the stunning views, snapped some group photos, and enjoyed the snacks we'd packed. There, we saw shepherds with their flocks of sheep, horses and protective dogs- a sight added a slice of authentic mountain life to our adventure. Spending time at the top, surrounding by breathtaking views and the vast quiet of the hills, was a memory we won't soon forget.

We completed the trek around 5pm, feeling exhilarated and a bit tired but fulfilled. Lamadugh's beauty, simplicity and peaceful atmosphere made it an incredible day hike. If you are in Manali and want to explore beyond the typical tourist spots, I would highly recommend the Lamadugh trek. Just grab some friends, pack your snacks, and enjoy a slice of nature that's both challenging and soul-soothing.
